MadameLavender said:25 first place wins--if you see a 25 or greater next to your username then that's what you go by.  Superhero qualification-- it's all in good fun, and I had to pick something for a cutoff.  Thanks for asking and please don't sour this with snark, before it even gets going.  It's a bit tongue in cheek, there is no favoritism on my part and I have plenty more comp ideas coming along as I'm able to set them up.

Let me remind you MadameL that not all the numbers next to our usernames represent first place wins...some of those are for being no. 1 critique for a particular month. Just sayin'....

Superwoman of the Paddy Fields

She wipes her brow
She tosses her hair
Long upon her shoulder
She dares the sun
To turn her brown
As she works the land
For her sons
Five in all
to buy education

She tends the field
Caresses cold soil
Coaxes the rice plant to grow
Praying for good harvest
Hoping for surplus
So she could sell
to pay for schooling
So her boys will have
A better future

The dusk of day
She shepherds her boys
To the creek to bath
and home where sky
peeks through the roof
ground looks up from below
Dinner she serves with love
Handful of rice for each
A piece of fish on empty plates

At night she softly sings
A lullaby to make them sleep
Her beloved boys
Off spring of love
From a man now gone
to glory where no bullet flies
from terrorists guns
No hatred from vigilantes
No tears of hunger

Dawn greets her with brightness
Never tire she set fish traps
Pound the rice for her boys
Washes their tattered clothes
Repairs the roof of the house
Sets the buffalo off to graze
Harvests the paddy from the field
At night her beloved boys
Hear her lullaby.

Ok, let's not get too technical and suck all the fun out of this--if you have a 25 or greater number attached to you, for whatever, then you're in.

And so far it's Missy vs. Grace!  Woooooooo!   *rings cowbell*

A Final Blink Of Indigo

Ancient clouds
crash together
as gone pilots
whistle their sounds
through the old stormy weather .
Ghosts of lancasters
from long ago
climb the heavens of indigo .
Old captains flew over towns
of burning church spires
cold and wrapped in leather gowns
at the controls
of spitfires
Planes fell from the sky
a final blink
from a gunners eye
Buried in norwegian ice
stuck in a graveyard sky
rest in peace
good luck
goodbye .

Thanks for entering Paul/Diddi.  Vortex--save that one for my next comp as soon as I can open it; this one is for if you've won at least 25 badges/trophies already. :)

I'd rather have a good dog than Catwoman

They say dogs can sniff out cancer cells in a human
which, given the obvious communication barrier
seems an odd superpower to have

perhaps if it's eyes lit up
and it blew the last post out of its arse
there'd be a lot more survivors
living to tell the tale

that said

I've never seen a dog working in a hospital
so maybe there's no truth at all
in that particular saying

they do however, (dogs) save lives in much more exciting ways
dragging people from infernos, oceans
and all manner of other things in between

cats. well they just don't seem to have the same kind of spunk
or they're far too vain to break one of their nails
