the fear you feel it isn't real
it's just like walking
in the woods when it's dark
there could be anything out there
there could be lions
never mind that it's snowing
or that lions hate snow
the corn hides things from us
the corn hides more corn
but we can hear it
rustling against itself
hear it growing
three rows over
a cornstalk shaking
is it a murderer
or a rabbit
am i being melodramatic?
yes

This Is Not A Conspiracy

In the cornfields two men in suits
are digging a hole…
Well, only one man is digging
the other, standing next to the dead rat
is just observing
because he doesn’t want to get his hands dirty.
Let’s assume he’s a diplomat from the
USA.
As the man digging the hole
is shovelling the sandy loam
his wallet falls out of his shirt pocket
along with his badge
that says
CIA.
The exact dimensions of the hole are irrelevant
but if we were to discuss
the size of the hole
in volume
it would be big enough for a small man
possibly of European descent.
Let’s just assume that the body laying next to the grave
was a French Ambassador and perhaps
a representative of the
EU.
The diplomat tells the agent to stop digging
he then reaches into the dead man’s jacket
and removes a yellow envelope stamped
with the words
TOP SECRET.
The document, now in the possession of the diplomat
held classified information of the European Union's
anti-biotech strategies…
This has nothing to do with weapons of mass destruction.
The agent roles the dead man into the grave
and starts to backfill the hole.
Slowly the secret of the man’s death is covered up
but what are they trying to hide?
There are no bullet holes
and no punctured veins from lethal injection.
With absolute certainty
there appears to be no apparent cause of death…
except for the corn cob lodged in the dead man’s mouth
blocking his airways
choking him to death.
If you look closely
at the bottom of the cob
just above the dead man’s bottom lip
the corn is signed
with the killer’s mark
three sweet letters:
GMO.

This is not a conspiracy… but who killed the rat?

A Cornfield Of Dreams

There's a big city out there
Bright lights and fancy cars
Broadway plays and movie stars
Shopping boutiques
Supermodels featured in magazines
Restaurants serving international cusine
A metropolis filled with all types of diversity
An abundance of culture
Art museums, music concerts
Nightclubs and dancing wow!
I can see the sights now
Statues and landmarks
Benches in parks
I bet people in the city wear a lot of perfume and jewelry
The only gold here is the corn

And here we have it--Grace! Great write, nice twist in there---Woo Hoo!  This was a tough one--all great entries, and I have to say, Strider, you were in the lead until Grace showed up, but always plenty more opportunities coming.  Zacc--I smiled every time I read your poem!  I can totally picture that as a fantasy children's movie--send that one off to Speilberg.  Alexander--very nice write!  Scarypoet--keep at it;  really nice on yours, too.

But congrats to everyone--you're all winners!

Congrats Grace, I liked your twisted little love poem and well done BlaccZacc with your cool scribe. Thanks MadameLavander for inspiring me to write something about corn... I don't think it would have ever crossed my mind.
