Poetry Contest

What's in the cornfield??

http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp333/LisaM0214/Corn-Field_zps231f9b36.jpeg

What do you think lies behind the rows....just more corn?  Or could it be something else, like a portal to another world, someone hiding out in there, a maze, or something so sinister that even Stephen King would run sobbing to his mommy?

You decide what lies within the cornfield amongst the rows.  Step inside and write about what you find there.

One week, up to 3 entries per person, any style, any length (just not a novel please-I have the attention span of a gnat...) old or new poems, collaborations welcome!

I went there to get some maize,
But all the maize covered in deep haze ,
I was hungry so I shouted ....
But no one came to gave me sprouted.

I annoyed and reshuffled the field ,
but still I got nothing for my meal ,
For me it was a dark Jungle...
where everything was in bungle.

I came back from its rows.....
and suddenly fall as something stop my flows,
I leaned and found....
A lot of maizes that make my way Bound.

The Land of Amaizement

What lies beneath this cornfield?
I can not say aloud...
Shh...shhhhh!!
I'll tell you in your ear...
What lies beneath this cornfield is the Land of Amaizement!
Where corny jokes are the funniest
Yellow is the lovliest
And the Kernal is even higher than the army's General
In the Land of Amaizement
You'd make great friends to peas
The King And Queen sit on their cobs
And make amends throughout
They keep away the Flakes who try to ruin the kingdom with thier
Dry, crunchy ways
Then pray to Lord Harvest to keep them healthy
And continue to build thier world from starch to finish
I can say no more
You'll have to see the rest for yourself
Go ahead and dig deep to the Land of Amaizement...

In a Cornfield Near Saratoga NY

A small boy
brushes between rows of tall corn
Lost in sameness
of a nameless forest.
Seventy rows in, then
seventy stalks to the left
silent stands a straw-filled man
in tattered clothes
once a master at
frightening  crows
Retired now and reclusive
Since seeds have grown
The crows are gone
In rattling leaves he waits
for one more chance at fame

A small boy
Brushing through the rows

Thank the Goddess I was not the only one who thought of that when I saw that picture! I thought I was the only crazy one. Lol. Children of the Corn - good horror movie! Epic quote.

Beyond the Corn Field

My love he was
so handsome of face
walk tall with grace
I pined for him
Through my lonely days
When he came wooing
I was as happy
as a dancing sun ray
But alas he wooed
my pretty sister
who coquettishly said Yes
My heart turned to ashes
And bitter as bile
Every day I walked along
The corn rows
Hiding my ever sliding tears
And then one day I met him
The cause of my pain
He looked at me with sorrow
Folded me in his arms
‘you are just twelve
You’ll find true love
Someday’
My hands it curled
Against the harvesting knife
And gutted him from his belly up
Heard him sigh
Crumpled to the ground
I buried the knife deep
Among the rustling corn
went home to bath
and sleep….
The funeral was sombre
All wore black
No suspect
Not even big fat me…
Beyond the corn rows
Sometimes one can hear
Sad sighs, moaning over
The gently swaying corn.

Heh heh!  That was the basis for this comp, and I wanted to see what other/additional ideas people come up with, for what's hiding out there in the corn...
