Your Safest Place?
Poetry Contest Description
well, to be frank.. give a poem (please no free-verse) about the place you find to be your 'safest place'.
This is my very first competition, so.. It can be about a place that already exists, finding the place, a place in your head, or building that "safe" place, yadda yadda yadda. Just no "the safest place is in your arms, baby!" because well, his arms aren't gonna save you from zombies or bombs or extreme depression, etc. Sorry to disappoint.
Above The Poplars
I want to walk across
the tops of poplar trees
above the copse
of people on their knees
as they look in shock
at the higher me ,
I don't want to drop
back to where I plead
it isn't how I bleed ,
I don't like to concede ,
passion runs , it doesn't walk
through every part of me ,
I have certain needs
in my sight
so I can see
but every time
I throw my line
they get out of my
thrown reach .
Many complications
and bad communications
a lack of belief
and quick set condemnations
missread dictations ,
unheard orations
my blood gets bled , I'm nearly dead
before the celebrations .
So I need to be
above those waving trees
I swear some day
I will , and you'll see .
I'll get up there , with no use
for accused , hot air ,
my keys will leave
their typed nightmare
and sail in the seas
of unanswered questionaires
reply with ease
and put the damage in repair ,
my words will talk
on every board in coloured chalk ,
run around in the minds
of those who cannot walk
and maybe then
I think the ink in my pen
will turns the if's and but's
into a definite when .
And that , you see
is all , I need
so don't worry about the food
and all who feeds ,
no ride is free
or full of ease
and I don't need
you at all ,
to ever carry me .

My happiest memories
through that I live, I breathe
I may not be happy but at least I'm alive
and in this place I survive
The other is when I write
it gives me strength to fight
the weight of the beast
the horror that depression feeds
Because your happiness it will suck
it will never have enough
from what is inside

Sanctuary
Behind the house
Among the trees
A shed old and decrepit
Looks like an old dog
Laying on the grass
With brown fallen leaves
Half burying it
On thin legs I used to run
To this shed
as a lonely pre-teen
to be by myself
scribble poems on the wall
leave a message to someone
especially a pretend best friend
It was a sanctuary
From the storms
Of growing up
From parents quarrels
Siblings’ squabbles
School and bullies
A sanctuary from hurts
Here I found my doorway
To wondrous lands
In my few books
With beginnings and endings
Of my own imaginings
And adventures where the heroine
Always did something good
The years have flown
The days are gone
The girl has grown
Into this jaded woman
But the shed at the wood
Would always remind
me, of my sanctuary of old.

We've Come This Far (SP Summerscales)
I like to sit alone
at night , just thinking
I'm quiet
like the Owl in flight ,
thoughts drifting
I know that he's outside ,
big eyes blinking
floating in the sattelite , bright
that's slowly sinking .
My kid's are sleeping , sound
they breathe I hear them move around ,
my minature three
are everything to me
I'm proud , profound ,
in their sunny beam
my mute becomes sound
lifes dirt becomes clean
all the pennies and pounds
don't work , as love is free .
.
The screen
a twilight LED
as I write , it's all that I can see ,
this house so dark
we four have come this far
and sure I am
of how safe
each night they are .

The coolness of your embrace
The finality of your words
The quickness of your catch
A soft kiss
Another soft embrace
A kind words
The wold is around you
The kind of thing you never forget
The words that make you happy and joyful
A person whom you love much
They are the one i find safest
