Freedom to me is being rid of the past, all hurts, scars, rising above any obstacle, loving yourself and staying positive about life! We are only free when we let go of all attachments to money, relationships, and our egos. :)

To me, freedom is like a release. It's being set free from all bondage and transgressions. This word doesn't just apply to jail or our country; it also means internal and social. Freedom to be who you are is a major part of this entire concept. It helps a person gain self worth, and be free to love themselves, thus having potential to love others. Inspiring their partner in the same way. Freedom brings along confidence and help, acting as a cycle that will hopefully one day, solve the petty problems of humanity.

Freedom...from the binds
inside of my mind
The lunatic is subdued
I am back to
Rebuild the life he destroyed
and sent me into the void
I am back from the brink
where all I could do was think
I have plan my escape well
and that's my story to tell

Freedom is a fallacy
Which no one will ever reach actually
If such a thing would exist
My thoughts of freedom would be
Not being bound by chains
Free from restraint
And being fully awake
Alert to do anything I pleased
Chased and got to any dreams I seized
To be the full puzzle instead of a piece
To be complete, to say the very least
This is what freedom is to me.

   < pieces of freedom >

  "finally, on the ship,
   finally, there was hope"
   my grandmother tells me

   today

   pieces of a rain day
   pieces of her freedom remembered
   pieces of a wet day

   not

   a crystal sunny day
   that traps us
   in its joy

   no

   the freedom of gray
   of wet
   of shelter

   history

   is washed
   remembered
   cleansed

   the ship

   the wash of waves
   the fresh new god
   the feel of freedom

   grandmother

   her new dress
   her new shoes
   her new hat

   she says

   "my hope"
   "my flight"
   "my journey"

   my grandmother

   free
   she tells me
   free

"Freedom"
by:  Eric L. Boddie

Similar to the way that Love is a one way street
Freedom is not exactly what the majority may think
Because just as Love asks for nothing in return
Freedom resides entirely on irony's brink

It is ironic that I speak of Love in regards to being free
But freedom has a cost, and Love is the fee
And though there may be some who will surely disagree
It becomes evidently clear if you think of it logically
The body can be confined, but the heart and mind are the key
Only they can bring enlightenment, thus no enslavement for thee
Just as knowledge provided the power to bring an end to black slavery
It also took white compassion for the sake of Black Americans like me

So what exactly then does freedom really mean
And why can't it be accomplished without the presence of Love
Freedom is an experience that can only be known by the Soul
Because the heart feels pain, the mind feels stress, the body feels strain...and that's not free or anything thereof....

Freedom is being able to love openly, without being judged,
to be able to smile when i come home, without having to lie,
to be able to make her happy, without leaving until she's satisfied...
Freedom is my dream to accomplish before i die, i refuse to till then
the ghosts of the past have already tried to
but look i'm gonna win

running than abruptly stopping
only to repeat the action
laughing and crying without a set time
loving and hating creating destroying
compassion ignorance...than knowing
only to repeat the action....to repeat the action
freedom isn't derived from legislation
nor is it a divinely born
i think its tearing away from the norm
and then repeating the action....its right there
when you repeat the action of being different

Im sorry i dont have a poem,
freedom is being able to love,
with out being judged,
To be happy,
with me.
To smile feely.
Letting the words flow,
right out the window,
letting them splatter and show.
To cry and and let go.
What im saying,
is freedom is shining,
inside,
my heart.
and hopefully yours glows
